“Yali, also called Vyala, is a Hindu mythological creature, portrayed with the head and the body of a lion, the trunk and the tusks of an elephant, and sometimes bearing equine features. The creature is represented in many South Indian temples, often sculpted onto the pillars.”

Intrigued by a pillar located in Tanjore, I thought of making it in 3D.So I went to the temple and took 300 photos of it from every angle.I have done photogrammetry in the past, but this is huge!.So many trial and errors and with the help of DAN MIHAILA (Sr.EnvArtist @ MACHINE GAMES) figured out how to take photos professionally for scanning. finally got the photos and then used REALITY CAPTURE to build the mesh from data. There are many workflows for getting map data from the scan..But I textured from scratch without using the scan albedo,as I need to get some practice in texturing scan mesh..

Then I imported the scanned mesh to zbrush for cleanup and further surface imperfections and damages. After finalizing the HighPoly, decimated it for low poly and cleaned the artifacts in maya and textured in Substance Painter.Creating my first huge asset using scanning it gave more insights on photogrammetry.
